Dropping a post to update my status. In my professional life, I provide goods and services that support critical industries (power gen, other utilities, hospital maintenance, etc.) We, like many of you, have been incredibly busy over the last several months. Unfortunately for the blog, the outbreak coincided with my need to re-image History Present.
My initial desire was to create a site that featured lengthy, heavily researched pieces that kept the people and circumstances of a particular story in their own times; no presentism. I love researching stories as much as I love to write them. I hoped to supplement the longer stories with shorter travel pieces. Travel pieces that also talked about the things beyond the historic site we visit, like hotels, restaurants, and guides. Reviews were intended to a major part. The books I read when doing research. Movies and TV shows we watch. Basically, the idea was to talk about things historic, as I lived them. I do not believe I have been completely successful.
Time to research is an issue. This is not the first time I have gone a long time without reading or posting. It happens often enough that I need to adjust my expectations of the site, and to re-image what I want to do with History Present. I am in that process now. My plan is: to first, catch-up a bit with you folks. I want to see how you are doing. Second, I am going to re-read everything I have posted. I am not certain how satisfied I am with everything I have posted thus far. I will finish the series on the Mexican-American War… eventually. Third, I am asking for your help. Is there anything you particularly liked? Are there things you do did not like? Please respond by comments or through the “Contact” link in the site header. I am considering everything.
This process may take some time, please do not go away. I have greatly missed interacting with all of you!

I read blogs to get to know the people behind them. I haven’t followed you long enough, so I look forward to reading what you are interested in and what you are doing. My husband and I are retired, so the restrictions because of COVID-19 haven’t affected us very much. I hope all is well with you.

It’s been a difficult time indeed and it sounds like you’ve been rushed of your feet keeping everyone going. It’s a thankless job so well done! As for the blog a revamp now and again is not a bad thing, it refocuses the mind – we’ve all done it I think, I know I have. It’s good to have you back!

Yes, let’s finish that war with Mexico as soon as this fight with Covid-19 gives you the time to do so. Since it’s your alma mater, you might want to mention Flight 932 sometime. I was 27 at the time and remember it well. Peace my friend, be safe, and good to hear you’re still out there.
